There are two KVM guests deployed to implement Mail services in KitsNet:

  • mailgw is the email gateway based on the eFa Project and hosts the external facing SMTP service that receives and sends email. This system also implements stringent anti-spam protections.
    • MailWatch supports logins for end-users as well as administrative logins
    • Webmin supports certain administrative functions against the server itself. The installation is set to use Webmin-internal authentication and only one user is currently defined - see /etc/webmin/miniserv.users
  • mailroom hosts the individual mailboxes assigned to KitsNet users, accessible through IMAP and web from anywhere in the world. Virtual user and mailbox management is hosts on this system.

1.2 7/21/2023[edit | edit source]

Migration of mailroom function from screech to ciroc underway. Supporting package installation will be tracked in the Ciroc build section. MIgration of configuration and data will be tracked here

1.2.1 Data Migration[edit | edit source]

1.2.1.1 MariaDB postfixadmin[edit | edit source]
1.2.1.2 Virtual Mailbox Contents[edit | edit source]

Mailbox contents are relatively dynamic as they continue to be updated on Screech minute-by-minute. To move these across and synchronize until migration is complete, I established an rsync server on Screech to export /home/vmail. The configuration is expressed in /etc/rsyncd.conf

[vMailboxes]
path = /home/vmail/
comment = Mailroom Virtual Mailboxes
uid = root
gid = root
read only = yes
auth users = vmail-replication
secrets file = /etc/rsyncd-vmail.secret

I also had to enable access to the rsyncd through the firewall with firewall-cmd --add-service=rsyncd --permanent On the Ciroc side, i created a client secrets file and a cronjob to execute out of the table for root with:

[psmode@ciroc ~]$ sudo crontab -l
15 * * * *     rsync -XAavqz --delete-after --password-file=/etc/rsync-vmail.secret rsync://vmail-replication@screech/vMailboxes/ /home/vmail/
