1 CAPsMAN Operational Commands Cheat Sheet[edit | edit source]
This page contains the most commonly used RouterOS commands for operating the KitsNet CAPsMAN wireless infrastructure.
Controller: absolut CAP devices: able, baker
The commands below are intended for quick diagnostics and operational use.
1.1 Controller Health[edit | edit source]
Verify CAPsMAN service:
/caps-man manager print
Expected:
- enabled: yes
Restart CAPsMAN service:
/caps-man manager set enabled=no /caps-man manager set enabled=yes
1.2 CAP Connectivity[edit | edit source]
List CAP devices connected to the controller:
/caps-man remote-cap print
Detailed view:
/caps-man remote-cap print detail
Expected:
- able – Run
- baker – Run
1.3 Radio Interfaces[edit | edit source]
View radios managed by CAPsMAN:
/caps-man interface print
Useful fields:
- radio-mac
- channel
- configuration
1.4 Client Associations[edit | edit source]
Show connected wireless clients:
/caps-man registration-table print
Extended statistics:
/caps-man registration-table print stats
Important metrics:
- signal
- tx-rate
- rx-rate
1.5 Provisioning Rules[edit | edit source]
Check provisioning configuration:
/caps-man provisioning print
Provisioning determines:
- which SSIDs appear on each radio
- how CAP radios are configured
1.6 Wireless Configurations[edit | edit source]
List configuration profiles:
/caps-man configuration print
Each configuration includes:
- SSID
- channel
- security profile
- datapath
1.7 Datapath Verification[edit | edit source]
View datapaths:
/caps-man datapath print detail
Key field:
- local-forwarding
Interpretation:
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| yes | client traffic stays on CAP |
| no | client traffic tunnels to controller |
For KitsNet architecture:
- traffic should normally be local-forwarded
1.8 Security Profiles[edit | edit source]
List security settings:
/caps-man security print
Check for:
- WPA2 / WPA3 settings
- passphrase configuration
1.9 Channel Configuration[edit | edit source]
View channel definitions:
/caps-man channel print
These define:
- frequency
- channel width
- band
1.10 Log Monitoring[edit | edit source]
Look for wireless errors:
/log print where topics~"caps"
Search authentication failures:
/log print where message~"handshake"
1.11 CAP Device Commands[edit | edit source]
Run these on able or baker.
Check CAP configuration:
/interface wireless cap print
Restart CAP mode:
/interface wireless cap disable /interface wireless cap enable
Verify wireless interfaces:
/interface wireless print
1.12 DHCP Verification[edit | edit source]
Main WLAN DHCP (Radix):
Verify clients receive leases from Radix.
Guest WLAN DHCP (Courvoisier):
/ip dhcp-server lease print
1.13 RF Diagnostics[edit | edit source]
Check signal quality:
/caps-man registration-table print stats
Typical signal values:
| Signal | Quality |
|---|---|
| -40 dBm | excellent |
| -55 dBm | very good |
| -65 dBm | acceptable |
| -75 dBm | poor |
1.14 CAP Discovery[edit | edit source]
Verify CAP discovery configuration:
On CAP:
/interface wireless cap print
Check:
- discovery interface
- caps-man-addresses
1.15 Quick Status Dashboard[edit | edit source]
These commands give a quick operational snapshot.
/caps-man remote-cap print /caps-man interface print /caps-man registration-table print /caps-man datapath print
1.16 Safe Recovery Steps[edit | edit source]
If wireless service fails:
1. Restart CAPsMAN 2. Restart CAP radios 3. Verify CAP connectivity 4. Check DHCP leases 5. Review logs
